Action Method : Quick Review

So it’s been a few months now and after reading the book Making Ideas Happen, I thought I’d write about how we put the books proposed Action Method to a test. Both myself and Sophia, my partner at Local Design Office have been using the system.
The Action Method is a practice of organizing and motivating yourself by prioritizing action based tasks. Pretty Simple. Everything you write down must be a task with an action. This keeps you focused on progress.
First off the book alone (Making Ideas Happen) was worth the read. Scott Belsky put down some great research and practice based thoughts on how creatives can achieve their potential. The research alone was incredibly interesting with examples spanning a good chunk of the creative industry.
My thoughts: It works for us .. and the great part is the systems ability to fit any method of documenting tasks. In other words, you don’t have to use the software to use the Action Method. **I will say though that we love the software and it fits us well.
For Designers: Any way to organize and not feel confined or slowed is a plus. The method is low maintenance and completely customizable for any creative type.
Bridging the Gap: As I always say .. it’s not enough to be creative.. you’ve got to understand the other side. Knowing your business and keeping it straight is the key to creative freedom.
